Udvartana, an Ayurvedic therapy, involves massaging the body with herbal paste or dry herbal powder. This therapeutic procedure is divided into two types: Snigdha (oily) and Ruksha (dry). In Snigdha Udvartana, herbal powders are mixed with oils or ghee and rubbed over the body, while Ruksha Udvartana involves the direct application of dry herbal powders.

During the procedure, the herbal powder or paste is rubbed over the body opposite to the direction of body hair, followed by a cleansing of the skin and application of medicated oil. A steam bath or warm water bath is recommended afterward.

Udvartana works by stimulating nerve endings, opening circulating channels, and increasing circulation in the superficial vein and lymphatic system. It aids in the absorption of herbs, digestion of fat, and improves skin texture and complexion.

Indications:

improving skin texture, complexion, and glow, beneficial for reducing excess Kapha dosha, cellulite, and fat accumulation, as well as managing symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes.

Possible side effects:

Skin irritation or allergic reactions. Treatment course: Typically involves one to two sessions per week for optimal results.
